3PEL01-2021-22-SEM1-A 3PEL01 | Learning Outside the Classroom (Professional Elective) | 2021-22 SEM1 (Group A)
Overview
This module will build on Year Two introductory module ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’ (LOTC) to develop your personal and professional understandings of how to using LOTC to enhance a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum in the Primary School. Embarking on a journey of creative and varied learning experiences, you will broaden your own horizons and build your repertoire for your professional roles as teachers.
You will understand theories, policy, practice and research in the field of LOTC to critically reflect on the potential for LOTC to contribute to children’s personal and social, cultural, moral, spiritual, cognitive and physical development. Your module will take you on experiences both inside, outside and further afield your campus. We aim to provide you with a range of opportunities to explore how the whole school curriculum can be enhanced by LOTC and related teaching and learning.
Participating in learning outside, you will appreciate the benefits that nature connectedness can bring to children's life long learning journeys. You will explore connections between learning in the outdoors and health, wellbeing and pro-environmental behaviours and critically reflect on notions of LOTC as part of a curriculum to establish social, environmental and educational justice.
