Course modified date: 4 Sep 2018
This module aims to equip you with skills in understanding, developing and applying syntactic descriptions of English. Detailed syntactic analyses are placed in the context of major linguistic schools of thought such as generativism, functionalism and usage-based approaches. You will be encouraged to critically approach different analyses and theoretical frameworks. In the second part of the module, we will be practically applying the acquired analytical skills to the areas of Discourse Analysis, Language Acquisition and Data Driven Learning. The module will also equip you with practical skills in the use of online corpora and screen casting technology.
