The module explores traditional and critical schools of thought to appreciate the changing nature of work and contemporary issues in people management. The module will cover cultural and historical debates related to managerial ideologies and concepts as a means of understanding the practices and principles of contemporary people management. The module requires students to develop a critical approach to considering the role of people in organisations and the role of ‘ self’ within the context of people management.
The module encourages students to consider the various aspects of ‘people management’ as part of the wider cultural apparatuses and managerial contexts in which they have been developed and are contained. This is the rationale behind the assessment for this module, in which students will be encouraged to consider the key issues in terms of their own on-going development and self-management.

The aim of the module is to enable students to experience first-hand the opportunities and challenges in project management and the importance of projects in moving a company towards its strategic objectives.
This module offers the opportunity to explore the strategic role of project management within an organisation, through engagement with a ‘live’ company project. It addresses the purpose of project management and its impact on organisational strategic objectives particularly in the areas of marketing, operations management and finance. The module also explores the roles of sponsors and stakeholders and how to gain support and commitment to projects within an organisation. The stages in project planning including risk assessment, development of a project brief and scoping of a project are considered and applied within the module.
The skills and knowledge assessed in this module will be utilised in the module Leading and Managing the Business Project (MMB061)
