| Description / Aims / Rationale | This module engages students with a range of applications of photographic practice, enabling them to develop their own individual approach within the parameters of fundamental photographic genres. This module will encourage a practice-led approach to a series of projects exploring both subject-specific and also interdisciplinary themes. The teaching will sustain a balance between theory and practice, addressing academic, artistic and research-orientated applications. The projects undertaken are aimed at encouraging students towards a practice-led engagement with theories around portraiture, ethics of representation, visual narrative, personal and social narrative, political and documentary photography and commercial photography. The students will engage in the stages of both production and exhibition of the work, developing a deeper understanding of different audiences and contexts of viewing. Photography Explorations enables students to achieve a deeper understanding of the diverse techniques and approaches to photography. The exploratory process takes the technical foundations established in Photography Fundamentals module and applies them within more focused projects engaging with concepts, genres and audiences in contexts such as social documentary, editorial, narrative and performance photography. You will continue the process of on-going critique, collating and editing your work and the critical responses in your personal portfolio, which will be formally reviewed periodically through one to one and small group tutorials. At the end of the module you will edit your work into a personal publication, which shows your work in the context of your emerging voice as a photographer. This module aims to enable students to:
