During Year 1, Semester 2 of the DCounsPsy programme, you undertook a taught module, PSY8104M Research Methods in Counselling Psychology, in which you were learning about a range of quantitative and qualitative approaches to clinically-relevant research. During the Doctoral Thesis modules, you receive a ‘Doctoral research handbook’, in which the thesis milestones were set out for the following modules:

PSY8202M – Doctoral Thesis 1 (Year 2, year-long- 60 Credits).
[DCP313] PSY8302M – Doctoral Thesis 2 (Year 3, Semesters 1 and 2- 30 credits)
[DCP322] PSY8305M - Doctoral Thesis 3 (Year 3, summer – 30 credits)– culminating in final thesis submission)

In PSY8202M and [DCP313] PSY8302M, your progress was assessed through a series of key milestones (see p.7) and by now you should have been undergoing supervision and you should have had your first thesis progression meeting at the end of year 2,   in order to ensure satisfactory progress before commencing the next step of your thesis. In [DCP322] PSY8305M, you will submit your final 35,000 – 45,000 words thesis, which includes a short reflection on your learning during the research process. you will also disseminate your findings in a public ‘viva presentation’.
