2DD013-2018-19-SEM1 Drama and Digital Media, 2018-19 SEM1
The module explores key practitioners in order to develop a further understanding of the role of both the theatre maker and the participant in contemporary performance. Focusing on the explicit crossover of practices such as theatre, live art, gaming and interactive media, the module looks at the work of: Katie Mitchell, Blast Theory, Rimini Protokoll, Builders Association, Paul Sermon, Big Art Group, Janet Cardiff, and Dries Verhoeven, amongst others.
Within the five-hour class, teaching styles will be used with flexibility and may vary week by week. Micro-lectures introduce the students to relevant critical and conceptual issues. Seminars will focus mainly on the analysis of (post)dramatic texts in the light of new conceptions of space, time, characterisationand interaction. Practical exercises and workshops will be used to enable students to develop their understanding of acting/interacting/producing/gaming for the screen, stage, public and digital environments.
Classes mainly take place in Theatre Studio 4 at 9.00 (*please check timetable below for different venues and times for some of the weeks).
